Strength Training in Peri/Menopause

Why building muscle matters in midlife

Muscle is often called the organ of longevity — and during perimenopause and menopause, it becomes essential.

From our 40s onwards, we naturally lose muscle mass and strength unless we actively work to maintain it. This loss can accelerate during hormonal change, increasing the risk of joint pain, poor balance, reduced bone density, and loss of confidence in everyday movement.

Strength training isn’t about aesthetics. It’s about staying strong, mobile, and independent as you age.

How I work

I’m a qualified Menopause Coach, trained through Menopause Movement, and a Personal Trainer specialising in strength training for women in perimenopause and menopause.

I offer personalised strength training in West London, online, or in your home. Sessions focus on:

  • Building muscle safely and progressively

  • Supporting bone, joint, and mobility health

  • Improving confidence in movement

  • Working with hormonal changes, not against them

Every programme is tailored. We start with where you are now and build from there.

The role of muscle in menopause

Building and maintaining muscle helps to:

  • Protect bone density and joint health

  • Improve balance, posture, and coordination

  • Reduce the risk of falls and fractures

  • Support energy levels and resilience

  • Maintain strength for everyday life

In menopause, exercise isn’t optional — it’s a key part of protecting your long-term health.

Why menopause-informed strength training matters

Generic fitness advice often doesn’t account for the realities of midlife: hormonal changes, joint sensitivity, sleep disruption, stress, and recovery needs.

Effective strength training in perimenopause and menopause should be:

  • Progressive but manageable

  • Supportive rather than punishing

  • Tailored to your body, symptoms, and lifestyle

Training smarter — not harder — makes the biggest difference.
